NIPPLE Piercing: How to measure and choose the right nipple piercing?

In order to best choose the size of your future jewelry, here is a size guide providing useful information for comparing, measuring and choosing the right size jewelry.

PLEASE NOTE: This size guide is a general suggestion based on our experience with piercings. Please note that depending on individual body shape and the conditions under which the piercing was performed, it is important to consider that the length and/or choice of jewelry may vary from person to person.

General information

Nipple piercings, worn by both men and women, allow for a wide variety of jewelry such as a straight barbell with screw-on balls, a curved barbell with screw-on balls or spikes, or a ring and horseshoe with screw-on balls.

Straight barbell or curved barbell for nipple piercing?

For nipple piercings, you can use either a straight bar or a curved bar, however a curved bar has the advantage of pivoting better and adapting better to body movements than a straight nipple bar.

What size is a nipple piercing?

The first criterion to take into account is the thickness of the rod (or screw) which will determine the size of the piercing according to the type of jewelry you want to wear.

The two most common bar thicknesses are 1.2mm and 1.6mm (bar diameter) for nipple piercing.

The 1.2mm screw is the most common bar size for this piercing which allows you to wear all kinds of jewelry, from the smallest and discreet to the most sophisticated.

This is also the bar size that is usually fitted as a prosthesis when you get pierced.

However, for nipple piercings, both for men and women, it is common to have a 1.6mm piercing, which allows for larger jewelry. If you are looking for a piece of jewelry that stands out, with larger balls for example, the 1.6mm screw will be perfectly suitable.

How to measure your nipple piercing?

It's important to have a piercing jewelry with a barbell that's the right length. A barbell that's too short will compress the nipple and could be painful, while a barbell that's too long will cause snagging.

To measure a nipple bar, measure the length of the bar between the two balls (or patterns), excluding the screw threads.

The measurement is done in the same way for a curved bar as for a straight bar:

The length of the nipple piercing bar will of course vary from person to person and depending on whether you are a man or a woman.

For a female nipple piercing, the bar length will vary from 8mm to 16mm. For men, this bar length will be around 6mm to approximately 10mm.

To measure a nipple piercing ring or horseshoe, you can simply take a ring you already own and measure its internal diameter:

Again, the diameter of a nipple piercing will vary depending on your body type. For a woman, the internal diameter of a nipple piercing will vary between 8mm and 16mm, while for a man, the internal diameter will be around 6mm to 14mm.

However, if you are still unsure about the size or length you need for your nipple piercing, we recommend asking your piercer for help.
