General information
The tongue piercing jewelry is mainly made of a straight bar with a screw-on ball on each end of the bar (one under the tongue, one on the upper part of the tongue).
What size is a tongue piercing?
The bar thickness (screw) for a tongue piercing is always 1.6mm.
The standard bar length for a tongue piercing can vary between 10mm and 18mm depending on the thickness of your tongue. Note that the most common bar length for tongue piercings is 16mm.
How to measure your tongue piercing?
It's important to have a tongue jewel with a bar that's the right length. A bar that's too short will compress the tongue and could be painful, while a bar that's too long will cause snagging and will rub against the teeth, potentially damaging them.
To measure your tongue piercing, the element to take into account is the bar length (in millimeters)
The bar length is the distance between the top ball and the bottom ball.
The easiest way is to take a tongue piercing bar that you already own and measure it as follows:
Note: The screw pitch is not taken into account when measuring the bar length.
