The tragus piercing is one of the most popular piercings of the moment.
Highly appreciated for its originality and discretion, it can also impress. And yet! Once you've read this article, you'll make an appointment with a piercer without hesitation...!
BEFORE THE PIERCING
There's not much you need to do before getting started! Perhaps find a piercer who's right for you: trust, hygiene, and a good feeling!
You might ask yourself the following question: isn't my tragus too small?
In most cases: no! It will be perfect! This little corner of cartilage is not the same shape for everyone but does not need to be very big.
TAKING ACTION
Adrenaline is pumping, stress is making you doubt: don't worry! Whether this is your first or third piercing, the symptoms are the same for everyone!
The procedure is very quick. And often less painful than you might think. The cartilage in this part of the ear may be thick, but the sensation during the piercing is not overwhelming.
The piercer will insert a prosthetic jewel. Often screwed 1.2 mm, this piercing is made of surgical steel or titanium. The shape depends on the piercing: a labret bar, a straight bar, a ring, etc.
The bar remains the most suitable piece of jewelry for good healing.
HEALING
Let's talk about it: a piercing, whatever it is, takes several months to heal. It can take up to a year, and for some people it can take a little less.
The priority for proper healing is to NEVER touch your piercing with unwashed hands. We could even emphasize that it's never a good idea to touch a piercing, fiddle with it, twist it, or worse, play with it.
The ideal is to do a week of treatment, with an antiseptic, then gently soap the piercing in the shower (when the hands are finally free of all bacteria!).
After these 7 days, the body itself will do the healing work. A little soap and water will help clean the piercing if there are small scabs. This is normal! These residues are formed by the lymph, which is completely natural. Removing them would create wounds.
For proper healing, you'll need to put aside earphones and earplugs, and be gentle with cotton swabs. You'll learn for yourself that taking off your sweater or putting on headphones will become actions you need to readapt!
Let's summarize! To properly care for a tragus piercing:
- do not touch your piercing
- do not overuse the treatment (7 days is enough)
- be careful not to get hung up
- avoid headphones and earplugs
- don't be in too much of a hurry to change it!
Do you have any doubts? Do you have any questions? Visit your piercer. They will be able to advise you better than anyone.
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR TRAGUS PIERCING?
The first change is tricky. There may be some apprehension. That's why we recommend asking the person who pierced you to make this change. What's more, it allows for better control of the piercing!
You can have your piercing changed 4 to 6 weeks after the piercing.
By going to the piercing salon, you will also be able to get advice on the jewelry, know the length of the bar and understand how to change the piercing.
Be careful with future changes, though! Do it on a day when your piercer is open. Otherwise, you risk not being able to replace your jewelry on your own. Tragus piercings are not very accessible and require a certain amount of dexterity.
Regarding the first piercing after the prosthesis, we strongly advise against a ring or a horseshoe. Wait 6 months before wearing this type of piercing. This rounded shape moves on the ear and complicates healing.
Be patient! Your piercing will look much better!
Some additional information? This way!
- Piercings and the beach: no problem! The sea is not a problem. If you've just had your prosthesis fitted, just avoid rolling around in the sand!
- Invisible jewelry: although very discreet, invisible tragus piercings do exist! Perfect for certain situations!
- What if I lose it? Well, it can close up very quickly in the first 6/8 months! Afterwards, it can tighten up and a piercer will be necessary to put a piece of jewelry back in. If that's the case, put on a straight-pin earring and quickly get a piece of jewelry replaced!
